INTRODUCTION

Determined to stop Sasuke from defecting, Shikamaru Nara leads a team of Genin—Naruto, Neji, Choji, Kiba, and later Rock Lee—on a mission to retrieve him before he reaches Orochimaru’s hideout.

The arc is structured as a series of one-on-one battles, where each member of the retrieval team faces off against Orochimaru’s elite Sound Four. These fights showcase the growth of Konoha’s young ninjas, pushing them to their limits.

BASELINE OF THE STORY

Meanwhile, Naruto catches up to Sasuke at the Valley of the End, leading to their iconic battle. Naruto, fueled by the Nine-Tails’ chakra, clashes with Sasuke, who awakens his Curse Mark’s second stage. Despite Naruto’s efforts, Sasuke refuses to return, defeating Naruto and leaving Konoha behind.

The mission ends in failure, marking a turning point in the series. Naruto vows to bring Sasuke back, setting the stage for Shippuden.
